Ethernet is the definitive form of technology adapted to have  linkages between a group of computers. Using pulses which are created by the source and translated by the receiver, such devices are able to communicate. When the Ethernet was still in the process of being conceptualized, it was first thought to be modeled from the widely adapted radio technology which uses radio waves in the air. However, because of its extreme unrestricted coverage, such technology seems unlikely to be used for guarded communications between supposedly only an exclusive number of computers.

And so, Ethernet was then intended to perform by the use of light signals instead of radio signals.  In a more generalized view, it is a form of technology that employs the use of light waves as means of transportation of information between devices. When Ethernet cables form an attachment between computers, they are now called a network. And these computer ties are then the so-called Local Area Network (LAN).

It is relatively easy to analyze how the Ethernet works. A main frame is used as the guiding force of all transmissions. The main frame is the one directing the ways and speeds of the signals. Through determining the points of origin and target, it assures that the signals will not collide or interchange paths. There is a particular type of system administered in order for the main frame to have constant and proper connection with the devices. The earliest type of such system was the so-called coaxial cable, which is similar to the one used in televisions.

However, not all linking devices are the same as they vary on the material and specifications used for their circuit board. Different materials offer different signal conducting capacities. And so it is highly essential that the connectors to be used are specifically applicable to the distance range of two devices. The two main types of materials used in Ethernet technology are Fiber Optics and Copper wires. Additionally, there are important accessories to ensure quality networking. These are the portable modules and connectors that make sure the physical layer standards of the other parts would match the standards of specific devices.

With its proven sturdy and reliable history, Ethernet holds the title of being the highest network technology for LANs. In the present, there are even more advanced and intricate versions that could cater to Wide Area Networks (WANs). Because of its efficacy in the field of easing information and data sharing, Ethernet is really a big step for the evolution of our technological lives.
